Our Story

Profile - animatedTwenty three years ago, on the 3rd of January 1983, a new school was born. A school, like any other ordinary secondary school , its responsibilities were simple but complex - to guide and to teach the younger generation to succeed and to lead the nation in the future. Nobody doubted it’s abilities but nobody was completely sure whether it would succeed or not. Its name is SMKDJ (Damansara Jaya Secondary School).

All it had was 3 blocks, 6 classrooms, 24 teachers and a total of 189 students the first year it opened its doors to the public. Each year, the number of students in SMKDJ begin to increase dramatically. In the end, to solve the problems of the over crowding number of students in the school, two new blocks, Blocks D and E, were built in 1985. Furthermore in 1988, the addition of was planned. . The construction Block F was completed in 1992. It currently houses Fifth Form classes and certainly was built with their needs in mind. In addition to its five classrooms, also contains three Pure Science labs and a convertible stage/hall. A later development was the Bilik Bergerak (Block G). These four classrooms occupy a small plot of land adjacent to Block E.

The demand for a place in SMKDJ from the public was largely due to its academic performance. In 1985, the percentage of passes in the SRP (Form 3 examination) was 76.1%. Almost each year, the number rose and now, 2005, the number of passes has gone above 95%. The SPM (Form 5 examination) result was no difference. From 82% passes in 1987 to 87.7% passes in the year 2005.

23 years apart from academic excellence, SMKDJ also shone in the co-curricular field. SMKDJ has churned out students who are all rounders. For many years, we have had commendale achievements in various fields. Amongst them are swimming, golf, debating ,choir and ICT.

Our Story - ICT

Merentas Desa or the Cross Country is an official sport event organised by the school. Originally an annual competition, the Merentas Desa is now a annual event. Sports Day is held every year where students compete enthusiastically in the track and field arena.

When it comes to being sociable and interactive, SMKDJ is not far behind. In 1990, ‘Titian Emas’ a government programme, where Form 4 students of various races are placed for a short stay with foster families was conducted. The objective was to enhance multi-racial ties. Khoo Heng Jim represented our school. Later on in the year, were the host for a group of Korean students. It was an ideal opportunity for cultural exchange between Malaysian and Korean youth.

On the 8th of June 1990, under the supervision of Hj Wan Mohammad Hj Abdullah, SMKDJ achieved what could be called its proudest achievement so far - SMKDJ rewrote history when it was named “Sekolah Harapan Negara” (Future Of The Nation), due to its academic as well as its co-curricular achievements in the past years. Hj Wan Mohammad had hatched an ambitious vision for the school - to achieve excellence in all aspects, namely physical conditions of the school, discipline and academics.

A year later, SMKDJ was officiated by Dr. Leo Micheal Toyad, the then Deputy Minister of Education.

In 1996, the school’s official homepage, DJnet was launched. It is recognised as a board with the status of the school’s official electronic publisher. The pioneers were a group of aspiring Form 3 students back then. DJnet is now achieving even greater heights, spelling a very promising and successful future.

23 years years later, SMKDJ has grown into a school of 1810 students, 37 classrooms and 98 number of teachers. Its future is bright. With the co-operation from the students, teachers and everyone else involved in the school, SMKDJ will be a school to be proud of for years to come.
